Kikuyu
This is the cheapest cost lawn. Kikuyu thrives in the Australian climate but requires more maintenance due to rapid growth. Kikuyu will need to be cut weekly in summer. Although Kikuyu is generally used for commercial and broad-acre projects, it is also commonly used for home lawns. Its medium-coarse bright green leaves give a Kikuyu lawn superior colour, which is maintained year-round in warm climates.
In cold climates, growth and colour are maintained well into autumn and early winter. Its vigorous growth habit allows it to repair very quickly if damaged and is able to establish a strong, deep root base to help it stand up to the hottest summer days. Good for home lawns, racecourses, parks and reserves, golf tees and fairways.
Kikuyu is most well known for being a highly invasive and aggressive grower and it is this trait that makes it suitable in some cases as a home lawn. With the ability to perform in most Australian climates, Kikuyu can stand up to a wide range of conditions.
If you’re looking for a grass that is an economical all-rounder, then Kikuyu could be an option for you.
